Recalls for certain Ford vehicles

Pennsylvania residents who own Ford vehicles should be aware of two upcoming recalls the manufacturer has scheduled. The recalls will affect 441,000 vehicles in North America and will cover certain models of the Fusion sedan and Escape sport utility vehicle.

One recall will focus on repairing a defect that can result in engine fires, and the other recall will be part of an ongoing effort to fix doors that can swing open while the vehicle is moving. The recalls are expected to cost Ford $295 million.

At least 230,000 Ford vehicles have a defective 1.6-liter GTDI engine that can overheat because of a lack of coolant circulation that can crack the cylinder head and cause a pressurized leak. The vehicles include certain versions of the 2013 and 2015 Ford Transit Connect, 2013 and 2014 Ford Fusion, 2014 Ford Escape and 2014 and 2015 Ford Fiesta ST. There have been no less than 29 reports of fires in the United States and Canada.

The other recall will cover 210,619 vehicles that have defectives tabs in the side door latches that can allow the doors to swing open while vehicles are being driven. The company has stated that there have been no reported crashes or injuries related to the defect. The vehicles included in this recall are certain models of the 2013 and 201 MKZ, 2014 Fiesta and 2013 and 2014 Fusion.

Vehicles that have defective parts that have caused an accident may be cause for people who have been harmed to file a products liability lawsuit against the vehicle's manufacturer with the help of an attorney. If successful, compensation may be obtained from the vehicle manufacturer for the losses that have been sustained.
