Over 135 Years of Combined Experience In Personal Injury and Wrongful Death

Motorcyclist catches scary crash on helmet cam

While the following story is a little bit old, it is still an amazing tale that has an important lesson (or two) behind it. A 24-year-old motorcyclist was riding with a few of his buddies back in April. It was in a somewhat secluded and hilly area. The 24-year-old was rounding a blind corner, and when he made it around, a huge fire truck revealed itself.

The motorcyclist couldn't control his vehicle, and he strayed into the oncoming lanes. He crashed head first into the fire truck -- and miraculously survived. Possibly even more amazingly, the 24-year-old made it through the wreck with only a few broken bones, although the breaks are fairly severe in nature and he is still recovering from the injuries more than three months later.

The 24-year-old was able to capture the wreck in a dramatic video thanks to his helmet-mounted camera. Take a look at the video in our source article, but be forewarned, it is a very scary video.

But herein lies the important lesson of the story: video cameras are actually a very useful and important tool for motorcyclists.

From a legal perspective, it is very beneficial for a motorcyclist to have video evidence that supports his or her claims about the wreck. The video can show a clear and objective view of the wreck. This evidence can go a long way in a civil or criminal case, showing that the motorcyclist was a victim of, say, distracted driving, reckless driving, or other improper or illegal driving behaviors.
